Besides the intervertebral disc as the main link between two vertebrae, there are two more important joints.
Those are called facet joints (between the procesus articularis superior and the procesus articularis inferior).

It usually happens that they slip out of the bearing /those are shifts of a few millimeters/ making such problems that you are not even sure whether it is your disc or facet joint that has been damaged until you have it scanned or checked on magnetic resonance /not the rontgen/.
Spine length is around 75 cm. Observed from the sagital plane, an adult has a spine that resembles a stretched letter S. Thanks to these curves, it is easier to bare the body weight or some other weight. The curves of the spine are created when you are born and do not change until old age. A newborn baby has a spine completely protruding forwards. With lifting the head, a neck curvature is formed. In the beginning the curvatures are only functional. They last during your active years, later on they acquire a permanent shape.
This is why it is extremely important to follow a child’s development and its spine development. If you do not take care of how your child is sitting, carrying a schoolbag, exercising, it is almost inevitable that deformities will be created – kyfosis, lordosis, scoliosis.
If you notice the problem in time and ask for a doctor’s advice, the appropriate treatment will almost definitely solve the problem.
